NeonGamer EA MT5 Review
Gold can be an attractive market for automated trading, but XAUUSD is also unforgiving when volatility expands.
A trading bot that works well during normal conditions can behave very differently when Gold makes a sustained move in one direction.
That is why I look beyond headline win rates when reviewing an automated trading system.
NeonGamer EA MT5 caught my attention because it combines filtered entries with a trend-following grid and ATR-based order spacing. The official MetaTrader Market listing describes it as a Gold Smart Grid EA designed specifically for XAUUSD on M15.
However, there is an important distinction: NeonGamer is still a grid-averaging system. That makes risk management just as important as its entry filters.

What Is NeonGamer EA MT5?
NeonGamer EA MT5 is an automated trading system built exclusively around XAUUSD (Gold) and the M15 timeframe.
The EA uses multiple conditions before opening its initial position. According to its current MQL5 listing, these include EMA alignment, ADX, tick volume, ATR, spread and candle conditions.
Once a trade is active, the EA can add positions if price moves against the original position.
The interesting part is that its grid spacing is based on ATR, rather than using a completely fixed distance.
In theory, this allows the system to adjust its order spacing according to current Gold volatility.

My Testing Experience
I want to make one point clear before discussing performance.
I would not present third-party backtests as if they were my own verified live-account results. The available material provides useful evidence, but live execution can differ considerably from historical testing.
What I observed from the available testing reports is that NeonGamer has a relatively sophisticated entry process for a grid EA.
The developer says seven independent filters must align before an initial trade is opened.
That is preferable to a blind grid that simply starts buying or selling at predetermined price intervals.
I also noticed an important risk characteristic: the individual losing trade can be considerably larger than the average winning trade.
One independent six-month test reported an 89.89% winning-trade rate, but the average losing trade was substantially larger than the average winner.
For me, that is exactly why the win rate should never be the main reason for buying this EA.
How Does the NeonGamer Strategy Work?
The strategy can be simplified into two stages.
1. Filter the first entry
The EA checks several market conditions before entering.
These include:
- EMA trend alignment
- ADX trend strength
- Tick volume
- ATR volatility
- Spread conditions
- Candle direction/body
- Other entry/session conditions
Only when the required conditions align does the EA open its initial position.
2. Manage the position using a dynamic grid
If Gold moves against the position, additional trades can be opened.
The distance between these positions is calculated using ATR, meaning the grid can adapt to changing volatility.
When the combined basket reaches its profit objective, the positions are closed together.
This is fundamentally different from a simple one-trade-at-a-time scalper.

Performance Observations
Third-party historical testing gives an interesting picture.
One reported six-month test showed:
- 267 completed trades
- 89.89% winning trades
- 3.03 profit factor
- 16.33% relative equity drawdown
- $993.77 historical net profit
A longer test beginning in 2020 reportedly showed 762 trades, an 87.27% win rate, 4.54 profit factor and 11.81% relative equity drawdown.
Those numbers look attractive on paper.
However, I would not treat them as expected live performance.
Gold’s volatility, spreads, slippage, broker execution and the selected risk settings can significantly alter the outcome.
Risk Management & Drawdown Analysis
This is the section I would pay the most attention to.
NeonGamer’s daily loss protection is useful because traders can define a daily drawdown threshold. Depending on the configuration, the EA can stop opening new positions and can optionally close open trades.
But daily protection does not eliminate the fundamental risk of grid trading.
If XAUUSD moves strongly against an open basket, exposure can increase as additional positions are added.
Therefore, I would avoid running this EA with excessive lot sizes simply because historical results show a high win rate.
The stated $1,000 minimum should not automatically be interpreted as a comfortable account size. The developer recommends $2,000 or more, and I would still consider the actual broker conditions and risk settings before going live.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Designed specifically for XAUUSD.
- Uses multiple entry filters.
- ATR-based grid spacing is more adaptive than a fixed grid.
- Daily drawdown protection is available.
- Supports hedge and netting accounts.
- Fixed and automatic lot options are available.
- VPS operation is strongly recommended for stability.
Cons
- It remains a grid-averaging strategy.
- Gold can produce prolonged directional moves.
- Losing baskets can become larger than individual winners.
- Results depend heavily on broker execution.
- Not suitable for traders uncomfortable with floating drawdown.
- Historical backtests cannot guarantee future performance.
Who Should Use NeonGamer EA MT5?
I would consider it more appropriate for traders who:
- Understand Gold’s volatility.
- Are comfortable with grid-based strategies.
- Have sufficient capital for the recommended settings.
- Can use an ECN or Raw Spread account.
- Are willing to monitor drawdown.
- Can provide reliable VPS hosting.
It may appeal particularly to traders looking for a specialized XAUUSD automated trading system rather than a multi-currency EA.
Who Should Avoid It?
I would avoid NeonGamer if you specifically want a low-exposure, single-position EA.
It is also not something I would recommend to beginners who assume an 80–90% win rate means low risk.
Grid systems can have long winning periods followed by a much more difficult market phase.
Installation & Setup Guide
- Install MetaTrader 5 and log into your trading account.
- Add NeonGamer EA to an XAUUSD M15 chart.
- Select the appropriate broker/account configuration.
- Start with conservative lot sizing.
- Enable the daily drawdown protection.
- Check spread and session settings.
- Run it on a demo or cent account first.
- Use a reliable VPS before considering continuous live operation.
The developer specifically recommends VPS usage and provides broker-specific configuration options, including an Exness setting.
My Opinion After Reviewing NeonGamer EA MT5
My overall view is cautiously positive, but with an important warning attached.
NeonGamer is more interesting than a basic blind grid because its initial entries are filtered and its grid spacing uses ATR. The daily loss controls are another useful addition.
However, those features do not change the fact that the EA can build a basket when Gold moves against the original position.
For that reason, I would not judge NeonGamer by its win rate alone.
If you understand grid trading, have enough capital, use suitable broker conditions and configure the risk controls carefully, NeonGamer EA MT5 is worth considering and testing.
My preference would be to start on demo, observe how it handles different XAUUSD conditions, and only then consider moving toward live trading.
